Tattoo Fundamentals Course Description:
1) Personal History: Why become a tattoo artist? What to do with your training.
2) Needles: Learning needle configurations and their unique effects.
3) Sterilization and Blood-borne pathogen study. How to protect YOU and YOUR client. Autoclaves, spore testing, ultrasonic cleaners, etc. Universal precautions.
4) Tattoo Machines- In depth machine building and tuning. You will build your own machine while at the TLC. Troubleshooting. Setting needles. Power source explanation.
5) Stencils- Advantages of making yours by hand. Using the thermal heat copier. Importance of an "all in one" printer. Flash and their line copies. Applying the stencil effectively. Stencil placement vs. parts of the body and how they relate to tattooing.. Where not to tattoo.
6) Colors and Ink- Which colors & brands work best/worst. Color theory.
7) "Let's do it!!! " The practical phase. Understanding tattoo "efficiency". Overworking and underworking pitfalls. What to do and what NOT to do.
8) Graywork and colorwork - sinking in color. Differences with graywork and it's healing. Mixing your "palette".
9) The Art of the Cover-Up. What makes a great cover-up and what colors work best over what.
10) Artist comfort and fatigue- rest and it's importance. The burn-out factor.
11) Shop set-up and shop licensing. Tattoo licensing & how to obtain it. Shop ambience. Shop locations/targeted clientele.
